First of all, let me say that I did not participate in the Tar Heel National's Friday race. But my brother from Oklahoma did and we learned some important lessons that I figured should be shared. Getting him out of the house and onto a plane was a major chore. Yes, 5 months ago he decided we were going to race in Las Vegas in July... and that meant that he had to learn how to fly with his bike. You guys know that I have no problem hopping on a plane with my bike - or a car or a t... Read More

Hard to believe a month has gone by. On Mat 13th I approached a starting gate for the first time at the Land O Lakes National... and since then I've had 7 national races, 2 local races, and 3 practice nights. Not bad for my first month of racing. I still am doing one-foot starts out of the gate, but I'm getting better no the balancing. I think the other night I managed to hold the bike up-right for about 20 seconds. No serious injuries yet. I have upgraded to the G6 Ballistic Jersey a... Read More

So this is my first 3-day National. I managed to luck into being able to work remotely, so I drove down to Baltimore from NYC. I stayed close to the track in a really nice area. The big hotel room made it easy for working on the bike, practicing my gates, and on Friday morning, getting some work done. I headed over to the track in plenty of time so I could get suited up and ready to practice. That's when disaster struck. Somehow taking the bike out of the car, I knicked the valve... Read More

Somehow I talked myself into trying BMX racing and I'm hooked. My first trip to a BMX Race was the Land 'O Lakes National and two weeks laters I'm making my second race appearance at Music City BMX in Nashville. I have to say that the parking situation leaves a lot to be desired. In all honesty though, you get what you pay for. The best advertisement for the premium VIP parking... is the $10 parking. Once you've done it, you won't make that mistake again. Save your pennies... Read More

It''s easier to say this after the event than before. But this was my first BMX race... ever. I have ridden around the parking lot and thru the yard before, but I have never hopped on a bike, suited up, and race against anyone. The folks at Rum River have an awesome facility and I was excited to learn the ropes as the #1 BMX track in the country. Thanks to the great volunteers who hosted the event and thanks to all the other riders who made the event memorable. And of course, getting ... Read More
