Anthany-Jay "AJ" Van Volkenburg is 9 years old. He has a passion fo soccer. He has played soccer since he was 5 years old. During Fall 2016 season he was labled "Team Captain". His dreams are to go to college on a scholarship for soccer and to play for the Seattle Sounders. AJ started riding BMX bikes in November 2016. He decided he wanted to race during off season of soccer. (Following his sister, Aubrey, and his cousin Ty.) He completed 3 races at Northwest Indoor track. Bringing home a second place and 2 third places. Not to bad for never racing before. He looks forward to the 2017 season!

Aubrey "Aubs" Van Volkenburg is 3 years old. Over the summer of 2016, Aubrey came close with her cousin, Ty. We watched him race throughout the summer. Thats when Aubrey decided that she was going to "ride just like her Ty." Her nickname "Aubs" got given to her by her one and only Ty!! She goes by Aubs with her team Diablos racing! August 2016, we bought Aubrey her balance bike. She rode that all over the house and got real comfortable on her bike. She was demanding thay she was going to "race her Ty". After a lot of thought, we decided to let her follow her dreams. November 2016 we took her to her first race at Northwest Indoor in Burlington. She was scared and wouldnt get on the track. Friends of ours even tried....Nothing! We even tried calling her favorite cousin, but she still refused. The following week I took her down to Seatac BMX track with Ty and he got her riding. She's unstoppable now. The following weekend we went back up to Northwest Indoor where Aubs finished her first race bringing in 1st place. (Her Ty was there and helped her every step of the way!) December 10th 2016 was her last race of the season. It was definitely a busy race for her. Double points race with Pro there. She brought her first 2nd place home. We took the rest of December off to rest up for 2017 season!!

I was introduced to BMX by a California kid named Sloan Roy when I met him at the bikeshop we worked at in the small town of KingsvilleTexas the late 70's and early 80's. I built a 26" BMX cruiser out of an old beach cruiser and goofed around on the local dirt piles and trails when I wasn't riding my roadbike. We didn't get a track in our town until 1982 but I already had my drivers license and a 67 Mustang. My bikes were retired except for the ride on the beach at Padre Island between surf sessions. I could fit 2 beach cruisers in the trunk of that old Mustang! I had built bikes for all my kids in the 90's and early 2000's but nothing like the race bikes of that era. I thought BMX was dead and gone until I rediscovered it at Bakerview BMX in Mt. Vernon WA in June of 2012. I introduced it to my youngest son, Joshua Wilbur-Henry. He was a natural at the sport and we embarked on this new bicycle addiction that is still going strong.

I've been into riding bicycles ever since I can remember, riding with my buddy, Gavin, next door at the MX track at 5 yrs old. Tried BMX at 9 yrs old at Bakerview BMX in Mt. Vernon WA and loved it! My first race was June 15, 2012. Went Intermediate July 19, 2012. Made Expert 27 April 2013. Started racing cruiser class 4 January 2014. Competed in my first National race on 13 April 2013 at the Great Northwest Nationals in Redmond Oregon. Earned a National 7 Open Mains jacket on 13 October 2013 and my first district top ten jacket for the 2013 racing season. In my second racing season (2013), I raced every BMX track in the state of Washington, did 5 nationals (all in Canada except for the great Northwest in Oregon). I also got to experience Cherry Hill in Idaho. I also raced three provincial championship qualifiers at Langley, Squamish and Pemberton BC, Canada in the 2013 season. 2014 was a great year racing for me with travels to 7 provincial races on Vancouver island and the BC mainland in Canada, Reno Nevada, Eugene Oregon, Redmond Oregon, Caldwell(Boise) Idaho, Salt Lake City (West Jordan) Utah, Chico California, and Kelowna BC. I attended 4 US and 4 Canadian Nationals. I earned Nag 17 on class although I was unable to attend the Grands in Tulsa Oklahoma. It's on the MUST DO list though. I also earned a District #1 plat for WA01 in my first year racing cruiser. Other plates I earned were, State #2 on class and #3 on cruiser, and Gold Cup #3 on class and #1 on cruiser. Being selected to represent Diablos Racing on the national team is another highlight of my season. 2015 was a good year finishing district top 10 and State top 3 on both bikes again. I really enjoy seeing my team mates and all my friends from other teams at the races and look forward to another great year of racing. Thanks to all my BMX friends, old and New alike for making this a fun year for me.(and Dad)
