This will be the second year of racing for my son and I. We had a bitter sweet finish to the 2015 season in Tulsa. But we are coming back better prepared and more focused for 2016. We picked up a great local sponsor the end of last year, Bikes for the Likes of Us. Darby and his crew have already been a great asset in steering us in the right direction.
BMX Racing was a dream of mine since I was kid, but it never got much farther than our own little dirt tracks and jumps we built in the woods near our house in the rural area my nine brothers and sisters grew up in. I suppose money and time was what held back my parents from being able to haul me to the closest track and fund the racing process. So like a lot of childhood dreams, mine faded away once I sold my last bike before leaving for college.
When I realized my son at a very young age shared the same passion for cycling I did...the dream was re-born. The sport of BMX has offered many teaching and learning opportunities for both my Jonas and I, and assuredly many more to come. I hope that he will stick with it for many years to come as I believe it will make him a better athlete, and more importantly a more decent human that is grounded with the things that matter most; humility, respect and a good work ethic that is focused on always striving towards his goals and not giving up. Not just while racing, but in life. And from a selfish point of view, I hope he enjoys racing BMX for many years to come so I don't have to stand on the sidelines. Thinking about racing!
