USA BMX Welcomes Shane Fernandez to the team

USA BMX recently added a new team member to the staff: Shane Fernandez.
Shane joins our team as Chief Strategy Officer, President of USA BMX Freestyle, and will serve as Chairman of the USA BMX Foundation. From Tulsa, Shane will be focused on initiatives to grow the mission of USA BMX, oversee construction and the launch of operations for the Tulsa facility, while working to increase our fundraising efforts throughout the company and Foundation. 

Shane brings a lifelong passion for riding from his youth as a freestyler, and today as he still enjoys motocross, trials, downhill, desert, x-country and adventure riding. Shane has even organized several sanctioned bicycle and moto-trials events in Oklahoma, Arkansas and on his private track. 

Shane comes to us from his role as President of Nabholz construction, the firm charged with constructing our new Tulsa headquarters.  Shane played an active role in bringing BMX to Tulsa by working side-by-side with USA BMX for the last six years, and has been an active corporate sponsor of USA BMX Foundation STEM kits and the National BMX Hall of Fame. 

Shane’s background in architecture and construction adds 25 years of executive leadership experience to our team. His work includes time in both small businesses and corporations representing $1billion in annual revenue in STEAM related industries (Architecture, Engineering,  Construction and Art). Additionally, he brings significant fundraising experience (over $30 Million in non-profit, business & political arenas) to our staff.

- Trustee and Committee Chair of the second largest community foundation in the United States- Tulsa    Community Foundation with $4.2 billion in assets

FUN FACTS
During his undergraduate studies, Shane was a gymnastic team coach and certified judge for Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci. He designed both the Gymnasium/offices and the corporate headquarters for International Gymnast Magazine.  He has personally seen the actual jersey Bart wore when filming RAD! 

As a child and through his teens, Shane competed internationally in competitive shooting and 
nationally in martial arts. 

Before deciding to study Architecture, Shane was accepted into Parsons School of Design in New York and Paris. As part of his portfolio submission for the admissions jury, he created art pieces portraying Fuzzy Hall and Mike Miranda.

Over his lifetime, Shane’s adventures have garnered him 23 broken bones

Shane's Favorite thing about Tulsa: "Rolling Stone Magazine just published an article calling Tulsa “The Next Austin.” Although it’s certainly a compliment to be compared to such a trendy and edgy city, I can tell you that the momentum Tulsa is gaining is just the beginning of something epic. I’ve lived all over the world and professionally studied urban design strategies my entire career. What’s happening here is unprecedented in terms of urban revitalization, philanthropy and advocacy. There is no other place in the US where I would raise my family. My children will grow up knowing that they can make a difference here and affect change. What better environment to give them a greater sense of purpose!
