KING OF FRIDAY NIGHT
With 18 riders in A-pro - including a few Vet Pros and a couple of AA's, the "King of Friday Night" title was going to be a good one. Even USAC / OTC's U.S. coach Jamie Staff decided to stick around and get in some pro warm-up. The former AA-pro and UK Olympic gold medalist in track cycling was hangin' in there, too - until his semi, when he got passed while in 4th place. Dk's Barry Nobles was lookin' strong all thru qualifying, and most spectators would've called him for the Friday crown, but France's Sylvain Andre - a former Jr. World Champ, was also in the mix and snuck in for the win in the 1-main finale'. The Noble one, rounded out the 2-spot - but Andre became King. Making it a real International line-up, Denmark's Klaus Andresen nabbed the third, to make it a 3-country/3-continent podium.

AM ACTION
The Oldsmar track this year is dialed-in as usual, with it's plush green grass covering all of the sides of the jumps and thick white line outlining the super-smooth and soil-tac'ed track. Whether you are a novice, inter or expert, the Oldsmar course will challenge you like any national track should - and that always makes for some great action!

In the girls mains, Badd's Devyn Willey and Gabriela Bolle were duking it out in 14 girls - with a good side0by-side sprint to the line for the win. Willey the Coyote scored the overall 1st.

In 15-16 girls, we saw one of many, many fact Colombians who are out to keep up the winning ways of Mariana Pajon and ????. Wearing the Colombian national jersey, Laura Roncancio blasted away like a lil'-Mariana to get the Friday night victory, ahead of fast Floridian Kelsey Dillon.

For the fastest of the 7 year olds, Miami's Alvarado~Martinez blew by all in a flash of red, white and blue. Dominating the 7x ranks is always a good way to start off the weekend and we'll see if he can keep it up throughout the national.

In the 9x main, it was a close race for 2nd place, with Cutter Williams (Time-2-Shine) holdin' off Tate Mucha (NKRT). Meanwhile, up front with a couple bike length lead was Corsa's Tyler Harnage - another flyin' Floridian to keep an eye on.

In what had to be the best race of the night - the 10 experts had a full pack, and it was all elbows and action from the drop of the gate. By the last turn, the gnarly hoard of 10 year olds were still packed like sardines and it was a 3-way race to the stripe between Putnam, Gentry and Haas.

In the category of "Win by the largest margin," Factory DK's Spencer Cole attempted to win by a complete straightaway, but came up just a little short. Instead, he won by half a straightaway - which, given the conditions, still is quite a feat.

In 15 expert, it looked like it was "Zoolander" who was man-handling the class on the first half of the track, and had what seemed to be a compfortable lead, but a slight bobble enabled Crupi's Hernan Godoy to sneak on up and take things over.
If Goday were Australian, we could make a funny "G'day" joke here, but we believe he's from one of the many South American countries - so, he probably wouldn't get it. Regardless, he did have a good day.

Last year here in Oldsmar, you might recall, they'd went a tad overboard on the Pro Section -distance-wise, and everybody wound up taking the Am route. This year, they weren't so over-zealous and made a more mellow, yet still rad, pro double that resembles the London Olympics with all of the green grass filling the insides.
To make the point of how much easier it is this year, over half of the pack in 17-18x hooked it to the left out of turn-2 and took the Pro/Am section. Colombian Diego Alejandro held off the hard-charge of Bogotians Nicolas Manco and Juan Rios, to win the final.

Colombians were on fire tonight - for the Gators pre-race. It seemed like it was a more rare sighting to see an American out fromt!  Once again, it was the Colombian country colors flyin' out fornt for the last main of the night - 28-35x. Not only did Juan Pablo Arboleda Ospina win the main, but he also won the award for longest last name of the night.

It was a great warm-up for the Gators, and with perfect weather on the weekend forecast, a killer track that won't kill the riders (and is gauranteed to make for some excellent racing), this year's Gators is going to be a great one!
