Americans win Time Trials @ UCI BMX Supercross
Chula Vista 27 September 2013 - Southern California once again lived up to its reputation. In picture perfect conditions the best BMX riders of the world gathered at the Olympic Training Centre in Chula Vista for the final round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup. The World Cup event kicked off on Friday 27 September with the Time Trials to decide who gets the exclusive right to continue to the main event on Saturday 28th September. Americans Connor Fields and Felicia Stancil outperformed the rest of the world in the Time Trials. Rethink race strategy The Time Trials for the final round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup Series proved to be very interesting , with the wind being up, causing the athletes to rethink their racing strategy for the second straight. Fields shows big race temperament USA's Corben Sharrah was the quickest qualifier in the first run, proving just how fast he can be in the Time Trials discipline. But eventually in the Time Trial Super Final Sharrah was beaten by the fastest man on 20-inch wheels, Connor Fields (USA). Fields once again proved that he has the quality to win when it counts. Fields recorded a winning time of 38.126 seconds. That is very fast on the demanding and technical Chula Vista Supercross track in such windy conditions. Sharrah took second with Tory Nyhaug (CAN) finishing in third. |
Stancil tops the podium Felicia Stancil (USA) proved to be too fast for the rest of the field, with a smooth run in the finals with a winning time of 39.114 seconds. With this result Stancil, who is still a junior rider, is back on track after she got injured during the Supercross World Cup in Manchester, England earlier this year. Olympic bronze medalist, Laura Smulders (NED) showed her consistency and ended up in second place. Alice Post (USA) completed the women's podium in third place.
