FAQs
WHO CAN RACE?
Anyone who can ride a bike or balance bike can race! Races are organized by skill levels and age groups. The age groups range from 5 and under to 51 and over classes. Within these age groups are three skill levels: Novice, Intermediate and Expert\Girl. All riders start as novices and work up to the more advanced levels by winning races.
WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
BMX racing does not require a lot of expensive equipment. Most racers start with their 20" street bike by removing the chain guard, the kickstand and removing the freestyle pegs from the axles if equipped.
WHAT OTHER EQUPMENT DO I NEED?
First, a helmet is required, and we recommend one with face protection. You will also need to wear a long sleeve shirt, long pants and enclosed shoes.
WHEN CAN I PRACTICE?
WESTERVILLE BMX is located in Alum Creek South Park, a City of Westerville public park. You can practice whenever the park is open. We do ask that you do not ride on the track when it is wet.
HOW CAN I GET STARTED?
Simply visit our track during the practice or racing times and ask for a membership application or information. You can watch the races, talk to other BMX families, or give it a try yourself.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO RACE?
We offer a one-time only, 1 DAY FREE TRIAL for the first day that you participate in a race or practice. After that a one-year membership of $80.00 is required for participation (memberships run 12 months from the date of purchase). Once you have an active membership, the only other cost for participation is the registration fee for the events you choose to attend. Current costs for practice is $7 and $12 for most races ($7 for balance bikes). Practices are 2.5 hours long and a typical BMX race includes 2 qualifying motos along with a main event. In the main event, you race for awards, determined by your finish, along with USA BMX points!
