Summer Mountain Bike Series
NEW for 2023!
SUMMER RACING SERIES FOR MOUNTAIN BIKES @ GVBMX
USA BMX & BMX Canada have created 5 new classes for Mountain Bikes. These categories will be available nationwide at sanctioned USA BMX races. The series will point and rank riders from May 1 to August 31, 2023. The classifications will follow the popular USA BMX district points and riders will accumulate points towards their assigned district at each event they participate in. There will be a special award for the series winner in each of the districts for both the Dirt Jumper category and Mountain Bike category.
The FIVE (5) Race Classes:
· All-inclusive Mountain Bike Dirt Jumper "DJ" Class (genderless & ageless)
· Four (4) Traditional Mountain Bike Age-Category Classes (genderless)
12 & under · 13-17 · 18-35 · 36 & over
Details:
EQUIPMENT - All wheel sizes are allowed but must have a suspension front fork. The DJ class is limited to hardtail bikes with a wheel size of less than 27.5.
RACING - Riders will race from the starting gate with the cadence and gate drop. The race will be a start to finish on the track with no laps.
POINTS are awarded based on the USA BMX novice district points table for single point racing. A rider may race in any district. Points will accumulate in the rider’s home district.
SERIES - Riders will earn points from May 1 to August 31, 2023 in either the Dirt Jumper Class or the Mountain Bike Class. The number 1 rider in each district will receive an award.
F.A.Q.
Can I race laps?
No lap racing for the pointed races. We know of many tracks that offer non-pointed open classes for mountain bike riders that race laps and this is still acceptable for those races not incurring points.
Can I wear shorts?
Yes. Loose fitting short pants made of tear-resistant material are permitted when used in combination with knee/shin pads. All combinations of knee/shin pads are subject to the approval of the Sanction and/or Track Operator.
Can I race in the regular BMX cruiser class?
Yes. Just as mountain bike riders have for many years, this does not change that ability but rather gives exclusive opportunity to race only mountain bikes against mountain bike riders.
What happens after the summer series?
USA BMX will continue to develop additional ranking opportunities for mountain bike riders. Riders wishing to continue on their mountain bike can race in the cruiser class or the newly formed classes. The summer series is a pilot program to allow tracks the opportunity to provide feedback for future programming.
What membership do I purchase?
A regular USA BMX membership. Every rider practicing or competing on any sanctioned track must obtain a membership prior to riding on the track.
Can I ride my MTB prior to May 1st?
Yes. Keep in mind a track has always been allowed to host mountain bike riders but you simply choose to race in the novice, or cruiser class with the mountain bike.
Will there be mountain bike classes offered at Nationals?
No. This program is being piloted at non-ranking series events.
