The results are in and my sons very first BMX season is over. His mother and I couldnt be more proud. Flash back two years ago when our son asked to race. Bought the bike got ready to hit the track and suddenly he didnt want to race. Sold the bike and moved forward. Summer 2017 Im asked to go watch his friend Nate race at Toledo Speed Way Bmx. We go out have a great time and again im asked again "Dad i want to race". Dusted off one of the bikes in the garage and went out for a practice night. Kason loved it and he decided to race that Saturday. It was a warm day July 29th, Kason gets into the gate and the Gate drops and moto 1 is under way. Finished 4th. Gets loaded back into the gate for Moto 2, Gate drops Kason rounds the first turn attempts to go between 2 other riders, goes over the jump side ways and crashes, crashes BAD tacoing the rear wheel and doesnt make the main. I didnt say a word other then asking him if he was ok. In my head im thinking here we go again at least he tried. The ride home was quite and we didnt speak of racing for the rest of the weekend. To my suprise I was asked "Dad are we going to the track for practice"? Yeah man we can do that let me get the bike back rolling, which turned into a new bike. Just like that the "Magic Man" was born. Which brings us to today hes the #3 novice rider in the OH2 district, finished 103 overall. At his home track (Toledo Speedway BMX) hes the #1 8 Novice rider, #3 8 year old, 35th out of 271 boys and 59th out of 382 total riders. I feel this is a perfect example of not quiting and going after what you want. Easily could have walked away after the crash and forgot about BMX, Instead got back on the bike went to every practice, joined some clinics and never stopped giving it his all. I Cant wait to see what 2018 brings as we kick off the season tomorrow at the Dayton Indoor.
