Round one is in the books and I'm glad to be home safe & sound. It was a fun weekend of racing in Las Vegas at South Point with lots of ups and downs but I thank God that the kids and I are all in one piece.
Friday's pre-race started off good with a transfer in the 1st round but the main wasn't so sweet. Unfortunately there was a drunk rider that plowed into the guy next to me right out of the gate, causing him to crash into me and take us both out. My GoPro went flying across the track and my brand new helmet got some fresh battle wounds.
Saturday started off pretty rough when I had to go to 2nd round qualifying for both mixed open and class. However, it all worked out when I made it to the main in both and got a little more track time. In my open main, I got a decent start and settled in for a 2nd place finish. In 36-40 inter main, I got a great start as did Cei Osman. I tried reeling him in all the way to the finish but ran out of track on the last straight. I was happy to take 2nd place finish and get be ready for the next day.
Sunday went well for me in open as I won my first moto as well as the main event. In class, I also transferred first round and went straight to the main, but that's when things got rough. As the cadence sounded I stood up. My wheel turned slightly to the side and caused me to wobble a little. I kept it up but not without bumping the guy next to me in lane 8 right as the gate dropped. I was the last one out of the rack and was also far on the outside. I managed to pick a couple guys off but it didn't really matter because from the USA BMX results page it seems that I have been DQ'd.
So overall, yes it was a good weekend. I like to use every race as a learning experience and press forward to improve on my speed, technique, and skill. Can't wait for Phoenix, AZ next month. Until then... Stay blessed!!!
THANK YOU: Jesus Christ my King, my wife and kids for their support, Hesperia BMX, GHP, ODI, Fly Racing, BOX, PROMAX, DiscipleWear, Evangel Ink Tattoo, and all my BMX friends out there.
