RICHMOND BMX ORGANIZATIONAL ANNOUNCEMENT. PLEASE READ
To all of our friends and family members who make up the great community that we’ve built at Richmond BMX over the last 25 years:
This season, especially amidst a global pandemic and after not racing throughout 2020, has come back in full force and we couldn't be more excited and proud of what we have achieved together. 2021 has been a year of amazing accomplishments for Richmond BMX from the restart in March, to record breaking Gold Cup weekend, from hosting The Rumble in Richmond and Flat Pedal Pro Am events, to officially obtaining 501c3 non-profit status as RVA BMX. This has truly been one amazing year with more to come before we end our season on Sunday, November 7th.
As we plan for the upcoming 2022 season we are making several organizational changes whereby we will create various new roles focused on specific tasks required to make each race day possible for us all. In addition to all the great races and events this year we recognize that our volunteer board has been full each and every weekend and without that volunteer support from many of you our race days would not be what they are and for that we thank you.
As part of this new organizational structure and after an impressive 8 years leading Richmond BMX, Gary Craig will be stepping down as Track Operator effective at the end of the 2021 season. All of us owe a great deal of thanks and gratitude to the entire Craig family, but especially to Gary for all that he has done for our beloved sport, our community, and each of the individuals that visit Richmond BMX each week. As was the case when Gary stepped into the TO role in 2014 where Art Luck transitioned into a mentor/assistant TO role, Gary will remain a driving force and permanent fixture in our organization acting as Board President. He will also act as an advisor and mentor to whomever takes his place in an assistant TO capacity. And of course Gary will also continue to volunteer and announce on a regular basis.
So what’s next? Gary, our current board, and all volunteers will continue in their current roles until the end of the season. Within the next several days we will post details and info about the new roles needing to be filled and their responsibilities. We also begin our search for a new Track Operator and will share more on that very soon.
For now let’s all thank Gary and the Craig family for their service and support over the past 8 years and let’s look forward to what we’ll all continue to build moving forward. With every major change that we face as an organization new opportunities arise and we look forward to what they will bring us all.
