With the end of the 2019 BMX season coming up fast, racers are looking for the last few points of the season. The USA BMX GoPro Sunshine State Nationals was welcomed with the return of the North American SX Series which brought with it highly competetive racing at all levels.
Before the storms came on Saturday, Friday's Pre-race gave us Pro and Amateur classes that introduced the GoPro Sunshine State Nationals in Sarasota. While a lot of great racing went down over the weekend, Friday night's Men Junior class featured Alpha's Cameron Wood and DK Bicycles' Spencer Cole battling 'n boosting for the top spot. Spencer Cole, the King of Bar Humps, slid into the second spot as he shot for the inside line into turn one. Tropical Storm Nestor had all of the Sunshine State crowd running for cover on Satuday. With rain and high winds pushing back races into the night, the first day of the Sunshine State Nationals raced under the lights, thanks to a lot of hard work by the Sarasota BMX volunteers. Nevertheless, Day 1 brought a lot of exciting and competitive racing from all levels.
The Junior Men Main Event had all of the crowd on the edge of their seats. The 406 bike of Cameron Wood was on his way to a perfect day Saturday, but too much time idolizing Vet Pro Phenom, Tyler Brown, had him in a similar situation as Brown's Friday night race. In the middle of the pack, fighting his way into podium position, Wood carved the final turn with some extra power coming down the last straight beating out World #1, Tatyan Lui Hin Tsan, at the line completeing his sweep of Saturday's Junior Men class.

With blue skies and tired eyes, Sunday was all about the amateurs. As the last day of the weekend, competition was high as all riders fought to make their mains and gain the last few national points of the season.
Back into amateur racing from her time in the Junior Women's class, Mckenzie "Skittles" Gayheart, took the Factory Fulltilt/Radio colors back into the top spot of the 17-20 Women's class. Showing off her progression gain racing against the Elite Women, im sure we will see all her hard work pay off in the years to come.
The hottest class of the weekend came from the young guys, as the 8 year old Cruiser class showed us just how competitive BMX Racing can be. Throwdwn's, Joseph Mather, was on the hunt for national points this weekend as he contests for the National #1 men's Cruiser Title spot with Madtown BMX's, Knox Perkins. With a strong start to the weekend in both Cruiser and Class, Mather ended with the #2 spot in 8 Cruiser, which we can only imagine will motivate him even more for the last national weekend in Houston, Texas before the Greatest Race on Earth.
